Chairman Rose Ismail has turned her penchant for solving other people’s problems into a new career path as a life and organisational coach. She believes she is reaching Jabba the Hutt-like proportions but maintains a Yoda-like presence at Salt.
Shareem has settled into her role as Managing Director and sees her new priority to market Salt as an opportunity to go out on a shopping spree for work clothes. She’s looking forward to travelling more in the next year, and already has France and Japan in her sights.
Fatimah Abu Bakar is Salt’s in-house drama queen. In between signing autographs, she leads the training arm in coaching clients through communications, media relations and the art of standing tall. She is the former associate editor and columnist at the NST and trainer on Astro’s popular reality TV show, Akademi Fantasia. She is also the go-to actress for all downtrodden makcik roles on the big and small screens.
As a child, Sharon had two simple ambitions – to smoke a cigarette and to become a doctor. Thus far, she has achieved one. Sharon has fought with so many bigots via Facebook and YouTube that she has temporarily suspended her own social media privileges. She lives by the motto “I’d rather be rich than stupid”, credited to comedian Jack Handey.
Don’t play-play. Many of Salt’s clients and contractors can attest to the fact that Wai Leng’s gentle façade goes hand-in-hand with a fierce set of negotiating skills. Her initiative and ability to foster valuable relationships is rivaled only by her insatiable taste for cupcakes and sweet buns.
The last year has seen Caroline grow a year older and a year wiser but, for the third decade in a row, she has failed to grow any taller. It may be time to give up. Salt’s Head of Projects believes in fantasies, pixies and goblins. Her all-time favourite quote: “”Unicorns ARE real, they’re just fat and grey and we call them rhinos.”
Dayang Miraffiorry spends her time whipping Salt’s internal processes into shape and managing training under the Salt Media School. She untangles red tape and translates bureaucratic blah-blah for the rest of us. She recently acquired a cat and a husband.
SaltMedia operations are kept together by the fearsome four: Rozita Abd Ghani, Zulkifli Hashim, Tan Pek Wan and Azat Mohd Khalid. They manage everything from accounts to Nasi Beringin lunches.
Ridzwan is an award-winning playwright and short story writer who loves to sort things in Excel. This may be related to the fact that he was once a struggling economist. At Salt he is senior researcher, writer and trainer. His quiet demeanour belies his manic attention to detail – a much sought after quality in Salt’s skill set. He made full use of his month-long paternity leave in 2010 to establish a bond with his newborn son that will almost certainly last until kindergarten.
Salt’s Latest Intern
New to the Salt fold is Flavia Galeotti, a fresh graduate who was eager to put her degree to good use. Still getting used to the idea of being a ‘slave’, she has realised that if all else fails in life she would happily spend the remainder of her days proofreading. The joy and accomplishment she feels when she catches a spelling error borders on geeky, and could potentially indicate a (not so) closet grammar Nazi.
